Horror Cheese – The Fraud – (did you think it was over?)

translation of my original post:

I’ve almost sighed with relief, while reading yesterday’s press releases of Italia dei Valori (the party of Antonio di Pietro) and I saw Silvana Mura talking about the second part of the recycled cheese fraud.
I sighed, because I thought that maybe contrary to the first part (which I’ve reported horrified after seeing the whole thing made disappear in the silence of media – while it was worth to become a case of the year with deep every day examinations), the coming back of this subject will make people and media talk about it and more people will learn about this huge scandal.
I’ve read that Silvana worked on this whole thing already in July, which confirms that IDV is the only party that doesn’t look and stare but investigates on things that concern citizens.

But, on the other side, I’m even more worried now. The big names of dairy industry come back and if already in July I realized that one is forced to discover in front of the market shelves that a huge part of all sorts of cheese carries THOSE NAMES (in some places one just cannot get an alternative) and that one understands that we just have no way to know what we really eat…
Grocery shopping has become a nightmare between doubts and questions, we are just tools being used for someone’s comfort, for the usual profits of the usual known and less known ones (but they are always bigwigs).

Yesterday they talked about this second part of Cremona investigation, it concerns grated cheese sold in bags. Of course after having recycled the most disgustable stuff. These refuses to get rid of, assigned to the animal use, were becoming instead toast slices, melted cheese, mozzrellas, grated cheese, provola, stracchino, gorgonzola and were ending up in italian and european supermarkets.”

Let’s repeat the names once more: Galbani, Granarolo, Prealpi, Biraghi, Ferrari, Medeghini.
I’ve heard the name of Kraft as well, because the investigation has passed the italian borders.
Last time the list was even longer, even if it was specified that many were only suppliers, but I just cannot believe it… read here.

Now some deny their involvment (galbani, Biraghi) and who swears they only dupplied the stuff in good faith (Granarolo).
The minister minimizes, the undersegretary reassures that, yes the goods were gone bad but they will not hurt anyone. (they are cleaned and transformed, you just don’t know where they come from) and then in Italy the food is safe. (yes, sure! they sometimes try to poison us, but just a little bit, normal thing I mean!)
The usual Italian theatre in which only this is sure:
- it happend
- the responsible ones are Italian and they may also be inventors of this brilliant idea. They probably though – why should we throw away this stuff, yes, let’s recycle! The recycling – italian speciality! (and sas you nay see we ‘re good at it!)
- the companies were supplying the rotten cheese to make it clean.
- the companies were bying back the cleaned and transformed cheese and after packing it back into those beautiful eyecatching packs, they were putting it back onto the market shelves.

Now it’s not up to me to decide who did what, who was in good faith and who was aware of the whole process. This wil be decided buy te judge. I hope soon, but we already know one thing: Nobosy will ever really pay for this scandal.

Now the silence will drop down on the matter, they will keep denying to confuse everything and the public opinion will not really understand what happened. It’s hard already to understand, if you read internet press, you get confusing ideas.
The products will not be withdrawn, the factories will not get closed nor put onto strict observation, everything will be axactly as before.
Then, if the fault will be determined, the responsibles will go into jail for two days and everything wil be finished…

This is Italy, dear Sirs! The fraud paradise. I deeply hopeI’m wrong, I hope they will talk much about it, to let people know, and someone will pay. I hope the justice will be done…

What can we do meanwhile, we people who must buy food everyday, to stay just a little bit reassured?

JUST ONE THING – cultivate the doubt and BOYCOTT THOSE NAMES.
Adopt this philosophy: I doubt therefore I prefer to give up.
(Warning: read well the tags for example Galbani is also Invernizzi and Lactalis)
Choose local products, bettee if handmade and avoid all this worked stuff, where you just cannot understand where they come from, they seem gfake immediately. All those melted cheese, mixed cheese, strange stuff.
Join the GAS groups (Solidal Purchase Groups) in the whole country, they hace acces to local products o safe origin.
This is the only arm we have… don’t we lower the guard. Defend ourselves refusing to buy.
